Orcas Library Banned Books Week
September 27th-October 3rd
“Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and highlights the value of free and open access to information. Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.” Stop by the library this week and check out a banned book!

Introduction to Pilates Workshop
Wednesdays/Fridays at 9:00am at Center Works Studio (The front of the Athletic Center Building)
Joins us for one of our gateway classes to the studio! Strengthen, tone, improve your balance and flexibility! The workshop is designed around beginning mat work with a discussion about the history of the craft. Over the course of the workshop we will move to more intermediate mat work and props, and well as introducing work on two pieces of apparatus-the tower and the reformer. Class Series: An Intro to Islam
Fridays September 4th-December 4th at 12:00pm at the Emmanuel Parish Hall
You’re invited to come explore this twelve-session introductory series on Islam. Each class will begin by watching a video presentation by Prof John Esposito, Ph.D. from Georgetown University followed by a group discussion. This event series is free and open the public, registration can be done at the Parish Hall.

Bike Repair Workshop
Fridays from 3:00-4:30pm at the Funhouse Commons
3rd grade and up. Enrollment is free for Funhouse members and a $10 drop-in fee for non-members. Kid bikes, helmets and tools donations to work with are appreciated.

Pokemon Club

Magic Trading Card Game

Celebrate Recovery

Join us for this faith-based, 12 step program open to everyone. The program is designed to help with a wide range of issues from stress, divorce, grief, chemical dependency, co-dependency, eating issues, physical/sexual/emotional abuse or any other hurts or habits.

Orcas Animal Shelter Open House & Garage Sale

“The Orcas Animal Protection Society is participating in a statewide shelter open house event! To celebrate, the shelter will be having extended hours and a garage sale at its location on Hope Lane. Staff and volunteers invite the community to peruse the new and lightly used pet items for sale by donation, visit with the animals available for adoption and enjoy a cup of apple cider and a cookie–or two. Their goal is to help shelters grow their adopter, donor, and volunteer bases and to raise awareness of the amazing animals that are in need of forever homes.”

Orcas Island Farm Tour
October 4th from 9:30am-6:30pm
Featuring all sorts of farm demonstrations including sheep shearing, wool spinning, seed saving, and see worms at work at a worm bin demo. Participants will be given the opportunity to visit farmers who will talk about the historic orchards of Orcas, and a new community participatory agriculture project. Because parking can be difficult at some of the stops, car-pooling or shuttle use is encouraged. The Senior Center will also be offering a shuttle for seniors interested in attending the tour. Sculpture Garden Opening
