Super 8 Cinematography & Eco-Processing Workshop
August 2nd from 11:00am-4:00pm
Join Orcas Microcinema and Echo Park Film Collective for this super fun day of Super 8 cinematic wonder. No prior filmmaking experience necessary, simply come with an open heart, a curious mind, and a love of movies! Open to youth ages 13-19. In the morning, you’ll learn all about analog cinematography and then make a collective movie. The afternoon session will be devoted to processing the film with a homemade, eco-friendly developer created with beautiful plants, fruit, and flowers from around Orcas Island! Participants are welcome to attend either or both sessions. The finished film will have its world premiere on Saturday evening at a free public screening curated by Orcas Microcinema.
First Friday Book Group

OICMF Music on the Farm

preschoolers with Charly Taylor and Mandy Troxel. Youngsters and their grown-ups are invited to Lum Farm for a circle-time of singing and dancing. This event is free.

Lego Day at Orcas Island Library

Help us build a massive treehouse or bring your own Lego to build. Learn amazing science facts along the way: telescopes, pulleys, fire, & chlorophyll are all on the agenda. Buy raffle tickets to win a Lego set & support the Ken Gibbs Fund for Science Programs and Books for Kids. Bring your own Lego set to build a creation you can submit to the San Juan County Fair.

Community Film Screenings at The Funhouse
August 2nd & 3rd at 9:00pm
Friday starts with a screening of workshop participant films followed by a presentation by Orcas Microcinema of Hummingbirds, a youth-directed, written and produced film about teens living on the Texas/Mexico border. Saturday begins with an additional screening of workshop participant films before Orcas Microcinema presents Cleaners, a semi autobiographical collection of stories about a rebellious group of high schoolers in the Philippines in the mid 2000s.
Gordy’s Garage Car Show

SAFE San Juans Gala

SAFE San Juans is hosting a special Gala to celebrate hope and honor survivors of domestic and sexual violence. This summer evening will be a joyful one.
